Grande Champagne the premier cru of Cognac

Located around Segonzac, this area of approx. 13000 ha produces very fine, high-quality Cognac on clay and compact chalk soils.

Cognac Grande Champagne is distinguished by its great finesse and the delicacy of its vanilla and floral aromas. The bouquet expands with age to give, after long years in oak barrels, the famous Rancio dried fruit flavors that make the quality of the Grande Champagne Cognac.

The Little Tuscany of Charente…

Not only does Grande Champagne produce the best cognac but it is also one of the most beautiful areas in Charente. Grande Champagne, often compared to the Italian Tuscany, is a country with open landscapes, changing at every turn, with hillsides jostling in all directions over which hang vineyards cultivated as a garden by local vignerons.

The stone heritage is omnipresent. Beautiful logis, maison de maître and manoirs dot the landscape. Their court architecture closed by high sculpted porch preserves the secrets of Cognac. Some of these beautiful properties are for sale with Maxwell Storrie Baynes.

Rural heritage is rich Romanesque churches, temple, mills, fountains, wash houses, old stone dolmens … each have a story to tell! Come and meet the producers: all passionate, they will tell you their land and tell you about their business better than anyone!

The most beautiful villages in Grande Champagne are Bassac, Bourg-Charente, Ambleville, Angeac-Champagne and Juillac le coq.

The Cognac area is a secret place. It is perhaps less of a glamourous or a trendy place like Luberon, Ile de Ré, etc… Yet, more and more people settle in the region to appreciate its beauty and authenticity (and Cognac of course !). And Angoulême is only 2h15 from Paris by TGV (or 3h00 direct from Roissy CDG airport)…
